Miriam is among
the thousands of Cubans that have fled to Miami with the
family to escape from Fidel Castro's regime. She leaves
but her father, Ricardo stays on in Cuba, for, after all,
he was one of the main characters in the Revolution. For
four years, he had abandoned a profession as journalist
to fight the rebels in Sierra Maestra, led by Che
Guevara. In spite of the links that bind
them, they are going to separate once and for all: Miriam
wants a change in life, to win a place in the 'free
world'. Although he is disillusioned by the fact the
socialist dream of his youth seems ever more distant,
Ricardo shows no interest in abandoning the regime that
he helped to consolidate.
Accompanying the real life of Miriam and
Ricardo, the director builds a significant panorama of
the present day situation in Cuba, broaching human,
social, economic, and political aspects of the country.
