MARIUS ET JEANNETTE

France

Marius et JeannetteA love story about two persons who do not have much in common, other than the fact they have suffered much and held to with dignity. Marius lives alone in an ancient abandoned cement factory in Marseille. He awaits the day when the site is to be demolished, and meanwhile lives out his life.

Jeannette raises her two children on a meagre salary earned as cashier in a store. She lives in a small house, but with beautiful Mediterranean scenery. Her neighbors try to help her and try to cheer her up: even so, they invariably question her solitary life. The encounter between Marius and Jeanette is not easy, for besides the difficulties they face because of their social condition, they are hard-bitten through suffering.

Sensitive and light, the film describes how the two rediscover the will and the skills to be happy.
