THE ESCORT

Canada

The EscortRelationships in the era of Aids are the theme of this comedy of manners. Filmed in a style that blends and revisits the most varied genera, from a semirealistic camera to situation comedies. It is possible in this film to identify the influence of Pedro Almodovar, Eric Rohmer, and Pasolini. The story takes place in Montreal and girates around Philippe and Jean-Marc, a gay couple around 30 years of age and their group of friends. Hopes, fears, obssessions and nightmares of the group are the center of the narrative. Philippe and Jean Marc are owners of a restaurant on the verge of bankruptcy. Thus, they invite the friends for a party hoping that one of them will invest in the business. There are Natalie, practicing zen meditation with a special weakness for Phillipe; Christian, a restless boy, and Joe, a semi-perverse bank manager.A series of confusions ensues, the party is over and Jean-Marc alone at home, receives a final guest, Steve. He thinks that Steve is a call boy that Christian has called over the telephone. The boy eventually brings chaos to the almost perfect life of the two boyfriends. The end is full of revelations.
