Elas A romantic comedy about women. Five friends in their forties face the ups and downs of life with a smile, tears and, at times, irony. To them, it is important to live, to love and to live, even moreso, in spite of all the trouble along the way.Barbara is a television reporter who is always in a hurry, even if she does not know where she wants to get to. She is hurried at work, with her friends, her love affairs, and with success.Eva, a professor of literature is a dreamer and a romantic. She discovers, however, that life is not all romance when she falls in love with a 19-year-old boy.Chloé, the owner of a sophisticated beauty parlor is always in quest of beauty. However, she eventually finds beauty in another woman.Branca, a singer and an actress, is uncontrollable, impetuous and wilful. With her unstable temperament, she pushes aside those she loves, out of her life.Finally, Barbara, well-dressed and owner of a restaurant, trying to cope with the difficult news of an incurable disease. After spending all of her time caring for others, all she wants is to find time to live her own life.

Luis Galvão Teles

Luis Galvão Teles was born in Lisbon in 1945. He studied cinema in Paris from 1968 until 1970, having graduated in Law. In 1972, his short film Bestiaire was awarded a prize in the Bergamo Festival. He made his first feature A Confederação in 1978. He subsequently directed A Vida é Bela and Portrait de Famille. Elles is his fourth feature.
