| CONSPIRATORS OF PLEASURE | Czech Republic |
A brilliant combination of film elements, techniques for animation,
and an unmistakable surrealistic style."Sunday". This is all that is written in an anonymous letter that Mr Peony receives from the hands of Malkova, responsible for the Post Office in the city. It is also a sign that he must make ready for the most extreme and strange experiences in terms of pleasure. Sunday draws nigh. Peony builds two bat wings and models a statuette in the likenesssemblance of the owner of the house where he lives, Mrs Lubalova. She, in turn, makes a doll in the likeness of Peony. Malkova bakes loaves; Commissaire Beltinsky nails several objects on a pan lid that he regards as an artistic work of art. Meanwhile, his wife buys two carp fish to place in a zinc tube. Zula, owner of the newspaper stand, produces an installation in which a TV screen is a kind of erotic center. And this is how all prepare for the advent of Sunday. Inspired in Sacher Masoch, the Marquis of Sade, Buñuel, and Max Ernst, director Jan Svankmajer places on screen the most bizarre of sexual expressions, with absurd humor and dialogue. The sound track plays an important role in this film where little is said and much is shown. |
