Born in 1956 in Prague. He graduated in cinema from the Prague Film School. He
began a career in theater and went on to work for the Czech television. His first feature
was The Gentle Barbarian (1989), based on a novel by Bohumil Hrabal. From 1990
until 1995, he worked as a TV producer and lent support to many filmmakers starting off on
a career. Bringing Up Girls in Bohemia is his second feature.

Based on the novel by writer Michael Viewegh, one of the most popular
authors in the Czech Republic, the film tells the story of Oscar, a professor who
endeavors to write a book. With no money, he accepts a job as tutor to the Král family.
In the course of time, he becomes more than just a professor assisting a young teenager
with her Grammar lessons. He becomes involved in a sudden passion for the woman who begins
to unfold - and this will lead him to a tragic fate.
