AFRICAS: WHAT ABOUT THE PAIN?

France

Africas: What About the Pain?Director Raymond Depardon traveled throughout Africa for three years from July, 1993 until February, 1996, capturing images of the continent and registering details of all the places through which he travelled.

This documentary shows Africa from our days: unique, discrete and divided. It is a kind of film diary, obtained by a single person with microphone coupled to camera to collect statements and information about each place.

Hunger in Somalia, AIDS in Kingali, the refugee camps in Ruanda, the sleeping volcanoes of Natron, a sumptuous cassino, a Brazilian café in Egypt. These are some of the sites recorded by the director with scenes divided between social problems and the beauty of the landscapes.
